June, 1999 we traveled to China with OAT. We were joined by friends Bill and Patti. We spent time in Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Lhasa, Yangtze River, Wuhan and Hong Kong. The streets are filled with a riot of bicycles rather than cars. Public squares are natural places for people to congregate, talk, and practice a variety of arts. The markets were fascinating with all kinds of foods and herbal medicines for sale that are not seen in the west. He language barrier is formidable and it would be very difficult to travel throughout the country without a guide. The great Wall, Forbidden Palace, Tianeman Square, Potala Palace in Tibet and the Yangtze River Gorge were all high lights on the trip. We also got to see the Terracota army in Xi'an.
